Language

The official language for the 2nd EAFES Congress is English. However, most of the presentation in the 53rd Annual Meeting of ESJ will be made in Japanese.

Letter of invitation

Letter of invitation, itinerary and warranty signed by the president of ESJ is available if you need these for your visa application. Indicate when you register the name and the postal address where the letter is to be sent, or you can contact by e-mail to the secretary office of ESJ (office@mail.esj.ne.jp).

Registration, Fee and Payment

Registration for the 2nd EAFES Congress is required on the website http://www.esj.ne.jp/eafes2006/. The website will be available after October 1, 2005 (Sat.). The participants registered on site (registered after March 16) have to pay more expensive fee as below.

The price includes banquet, but the accommodation, meals other than banquet, excursion and transportation are not included. The price for registration of spouse or other accompanying person is 7,000 yen (banquet is included) and on-site registration and payment is accepted. The whole program in the 53rd Annual Meeting of ESJ except for business meetings is open to the participants of the 2nd EAFES Congress.

Credit cards (Visa or Master) and on site payment are accepted. For credit card payment, you can download Payment Information Form from the website (http://www.esj.ne.jp/eafes2006/) and send it after filling necessary information by post or fax by March 15 (must be received on the day). Credit cards are not accepted for the payment after March 16.

A member of ESJ will be automatically registered for the 2nd EAFES Congress when you register for the 53rd Annual Meeting of ESJ at http://www.esj.ne.jp/meeting/53/. All programs of the 2nd EAFES Congress are open to the registrants for the 53rd Annual Meeting. A member of ESJ whose base and center of life is in Japan SHOULD NOT register for the 2nd EAFES Congress but for the 53rd Annual Meeting.

You can give an oral or poster presentation at each of the two conferences, the 2nd EAFES Congress and the 53rd Annual Meeting of ESJ. For presentation at the 53rd Annual Meeting, application is necessary at http://www.esj.ne.jp/meeting/53/. Be sure that the presentation at the 53rd Annual Meeting has a different title and content from the presentation at the 2nd EAFES Congress.

EAFES International Symposium

Symposia

We are now calling for proposals for symposia. Symposia on every aspect of ecology are welcomed. Each symposium will be 2.5 hours. You can organize no more than one symposium. Send by e-mail the name(s) of organizer(s), the title and abstract (less than 200 words) of the symposium, the names and affiliations of potential presenters and expected number of audiences to the Local Organizing Committee (eafes2@mail.esj.ne.jp). The deadline of symposium proposal is October 7, 2005 (Fri.). The Organizing Committee may arrange a Japanese co-organizer if necessary.

Each presenter should submit an abstract online via the website at http://www.esj.ne.jp/eafes2006/. The website will be available from 1:00 PM on December 12, 2005 (Mon.) to January 11, 2006 (Wed.).

The symposia presentations are PowerPoint or pdf files, which should be sent in advance. The Organizing Committee provides the PC (Windows XP) and projector. Personal PCs are not permitted.

Presentation

Oral and poster presentations on every aspect of ecology are welcomed. For a presentation at the 2nd EAFES Congress, application is necessary at http://www.esj.ne.jp/eafes2006/. The deadline for application of a presentation is November 18, 2005 (Fri.).

Each oral presentation will be a total of 15 minutes, including a 12-minute presentation and a 3-minute discussion. Oral presentations are PowerPoint or pdf files. The Organizing Committee provides the PC (Windows XP) and projector. Personal PCs are not permitted.

The poster should be on a 120 cm (W) x 180 cm (L) board. Posters should be presented between 9:30 to 10:30 AM and removed between 4:00 to 4:30 PM. The authors are requested to stay by their posters during core times. The authors will compete for a poster award.

Submission of abstract

Submit your abstract online via the website at http://www.esj.ne.jp/eafes2006/. The website will be available from 1:00 PM on December 12, 2005 (Mon.) to January 11, 2006 (Wed.).

The abstract must include the title, name(s) of author(s) and their affiliation(s). The text cannot exceed 200 words. Provide no more than five keywords.

Preparing your symposium and oral presentation

Session rooms are equipped with a LCD projector (true XGA, resolution 1024 x 768) and a Personal Computer with Windows XP. Microsoft PowerPoint Viewer and Adobe Acrobat Reader are installed on the PC.

Your presentation file should be sent in advance via e-mail and will be preloaded on the PC in your session room before the conference. Microsoft PowerPoint is preferred, but an Adobe Acrobat PDF file will also work.

Your computer file should be compatible to Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 on Windows-XP. We are not responsible for using animation and font sets that are not standard on this OS. The files of made in MacIntosh or older version of software might not work properly. We recommend you to confirm if your file works properly in the suggested hardware/software condition.

The size of your presentation file should be less than 5 megabytes. Files smaller than 2 megabytes are highly recommended. Make sure any to avoid including high-resolution photos or graphics, considering the computer screen resolution (1024 x 768).

Publication

Ecological Research, the official journal of ESJ, is encouraging authors to submit the papers of their presentations at the 2nd EAFES Congress. One or two "special issue editors" will be appointed and each of submitted manuscripts will be reviewed following the ordinary process.

Banquet

Enjoy the banquet at Hotel Okura Niigata on the evening of March 26, 2006. The banquet will be held in conjunction with the banquet of the 53rd Annual Meeting of ESJ. Hotel Okura Niigata is a 20-minute walk from Toki Messe, the venue of the 2nd EAFES Congress. The cost of the banquet is included in the registration fee if you are not a member of ESJ.
