Bylaws of the Achievement Award of the Ecological Society of Japan

Article 1: The Achievement Award of the Ecological Society of Japan (hereinafter referred to as the “ESJ Achievement Award”) shall be bestowed upon a person who has made a remarkable contribution to the operation and activities of this society or the spread and development of ecology, and that has been nominated by directors and auditor-secretaries as listed in Chapter 4, Article 28 of the Articles of Incorporation of this Society. The ESJ Achievement Award shall be given to a recipient who has been selected in accordance with the following process.

Article 2: The ESJ Achievement Award recipient will be selected by the board of directors.

Article 3: The board of directors will select nominees and report reasons for their selection to the President. If no candidates are selected for this award, the board of directors will report this to the President. A candidate’s history of contribution to the society will be considered in the selection process.

Article 4: If a member of the board of directors becomes a nominee and remains a candidate in the final stage of the selection, they will be removed from the selection committee.

Article 5: The President will consult with representatives regarding the pros and cons of any candidate selected by the board of directors and, if more than two-thirds of the votes are in favor, the candidate will be determined as recipient and will be notified immediately. If there is no recipient for the award, members of the society will be notified with the approval of the General Meeting.

Article 6: The recipient will be decided at least 3 months prior to the award ceremony.

Article 7: The award ceremony will be held at the Annual Meeting, and an award certificate and souvenirs will be presented to the recipient.

Article 8: Amendments to these bylaws must be approved by the board of directors.

Article 9:This list of rules is made in Japanese and translated into English. The Japanese text is the original and the English text is for reference purposes. If there is any conflict or inconsistency between these two texts, the Japanese text shall prevail.

Supplementary Provisions:
1. These rules came into effect on February 23, 2014.
2. The revision of these rules came into effect on June 22, 2014.
