*Johaerudin, Toshiaki Kondo, Nobukazu Nakagoshi

Indonesia government is planning to extend oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) plantations in several targeted provinces to develop the biggest palm oil exporter in the world. West Kalimantan province has its highest projection. In this study, we determine land suitability for oil palm plantation using Multi-Criteria Evaluation and GIS approach compare to current land use. Land suitability analysis considers relevant biophysical factors of climate, soil and topography. Next we evaluate land suitability from the actual condition in current land use. The results indicate that this method is useful to determine suitable land for oil palm plantation. So that, planners can use this method to generate the future direction of oil palm plantation. Finally, we propose to site good place for productive oil palm plantation in West Kalimantan.
