To understand dynamic photosynthetic characteristics in response to elevated CO2 under different growth-light intensities, we examined photosynthetic induction, i.e. photosynthetic CO2 uptake responding to a sudden light increase, in Alocasia odra (Lodd.) Spach. The plants were grown under two CO2 control chambers (380 and 700 μmol CO2 mol-1 air) for approximately 2 months. Each chamber had two light intensity regimes (PFD: 120 and 750 μmol m-2 s-1 in 10h/day). The CO2 gas exchange was measured in situ CO2 environments under a sudden change in PFD from 20 to 800 μmol m–2 s–1. In both growth-light conditions, the photosynthetic induction response showed no-significant difference in plants from the CO2 conditions. These results contradicted with previous finding in other plants, in which leaves often showed fast induction response in high CO2 plants. Further analysis is needed for the underlie mechanisms.
