Soil and water conservation is one of important and urgent tasks on the Chinese Loess Plateau. Since the 1950s, lots of soil and water conservation measures, especially the vegetation restoration, have been carried out on this region. This study evaluated the effects of different vegetation restoration patterns on soil nutrients among three south-north gullies: artificial Robinia pseudoacacia forest gully, artificial Caragana microphylla shrubland gully, and natural restoration grassland gully, respectively. Soil samples were sampled from five gully slope positions of each gully (East-slope upper, East-slope lower, Bottom, West-slope upper, and West-slope lower), with ten replications of each topographic position. The results showed that different vegetation restoration patterns diversely affected on different soil nutrient properties, and those soil nutrient properties changed along topographic positions. Artificial vegetation restoration patterns may effectively improve the vegetation construction and soil nutrients in the gully landform on Loess Plateau.
