Ecophysiology in geoscience

Kumagai T. (Nagoya Univ.)

Basics of vegetation productivity is photosynthesis, which occurs through CO2 exchange between atmosphere and cavity of stomata. Stomatal behavior is influenced by atmospheric evaporative demand and ecosystem water resources such as soil moisture status. Thus, for appropriate consideration of photosynthetic process and projection of the productivity, we must take into account environmental control of stomatal behavior and fundamentally, the ecosystem water cycle process. In turn, the ecosystem water cycle would be influenced by water supply to the atmosphere and latent heat exchange from the vegetation: there must be some interactions between plant ecophysiological behavior and local and global climate formation. Here, I am giving a presentation about some results and ongoing projects related to the subjects.
