Background. Permanent plot has essential roles to understand environmental change during certain periods to predict and to manage biodiversity. Mount Halimun Salak National Park (MHSNP) is one of the last sub sub-mountain tropical rainforests in Java, thus it is important area to maintain biodiversity.
Methods. Permanent plot III-Cikaniki (1 ha) was established in 1996 and monitored in several times. In 2019, re-monitoring permanent plot was conducted to clarify vegetation dynamic in this area after 2011. Trees (DBH≥4.8 cm) were tagged, diameter was measured, and individual number was recorded to measure annual recruitment rate, mortality rate, and total basal area.
Result and discussion. Community structure in this permanent plot dominated by Castanopsis-Schima (Importance Value, IV = 75.58% and 30.70%). Biodiversity index (Shannon Wiener index, H’) changed from 2011 (3.27) to 2019 (3.17) due to high abundance of Castanopsis acuminatissima, thus it altered species evenness. Individual number increasing from 2011 (1293 individuals; 94 species) to 2019 (1418 individuals; 104 species) with mortality rate 2.36% per year and recruitment rate is 3.48% per year. In addition, total basal area increased from 39.79 m2 (2011) to 43.52 m2 (2019). Profile of this permanent plot indicates that forest is still growing in good condition.
