More dreich than braw: 2020 pandemic in Scotland

*Shoko SUGASAWA(Univ St Andrews)

The Covid-19 pandemic affected every region on earth. Here I describe my perspective as a postdoc working at a university in Scotland, starting with a brief introduction into the British social and medical systems as well as local covid regulations. I discuss my experiences of living and working as a non-British woman of colour in Scotland, of having to self-isolate after testing positive for covid, and the problems I encountered during the pandemic. Finally, I discuss how I dealt with the problems personally, and how members of ESJ and wider Japanese academia could mitigate the professional impact of the pandemic.
