Phytosociological study of deciduous Quercus forests in the warm temperate zone of China

Tang Qian,Fujiwara K.(Yokohama National Univ.)

Deciduous broad-leaved forest in China is mainly distributed in warm temperate zone, and the Quercus forests are the main composition. Some phytosociological studies have been performed on the vegetation of northeastern China (Fujiwara 2000; Yu et al. 2001; Wang et al. 2006), however, the phytosociological studies for warm temperate China are rarely seen.

In this study, we try to get the information about the current situation of Quercus deciduous broad-leaved forests. And then, based on Braun-Blanquet methodology, we classified the different types of plant community and further analyzed the relationship between the environmental variables and those plant communities.

The study results are as follows: (1) The Quercus deciduous broad-leaved forest could be classified into five different types of plant community; (2) Among the five different types of plant community, the Q.liaotungensis community has relatively lower height, simple vegetation structure and lower species richness; (3) The Q.liaotungensis community is located at higher latitude and elevation areas, oppositely the Q.variabilis-Pistacia chinensis community is distributed in most southern and lowest altitude regions.
