CO2 and O2 are the most important gases in the material exchange between forest and atmosphere. The forest can reduce CO2 in the atmosphere. At the same time, it can augment O2 in the atmosphere. So, these processes maintain the dynamic equilibrium of CO2 and O2, and reduce the greenhouse gas. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) proposed the standards by TIERs for estimation of biomass in the forest areas. This study was performed to 1) analyze the methodologies for estimation of forest biomass by TIERs using Remote Sensing data and 2) estimate the biomass of ChangBai mountain area using KOMPSAT-2 imagery by above methodologies. Then, we performed correlation analysis between the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and the biomass from the previous studies. As a result, firstly, we derived the regression function for the NDVI and biomass. Secondly, we estimated the biomass of non-measured area using product NDVI. Lastly, we produced a map of biomass for ChangBai mountain area.
