Logical Approaches to Landscape Ecology

Natsuhara, Y. (Nagoya University)

Sustainability became a key concept of the world. Landscape sustainability science was advocated to understand and improve the dynamic relationship between ecosystem services and human well-being in changing landscapes under uncertainties. Sustainability of society depends on land use practice. For example, one of the most critical threat is expansion of farmland to fulfill increasing demand of food. There is an debate whether land for nature and for agriculture should be separated or integrated on the same land with nature-conscious agriculture. Sustainability does not mean a steady state. Disturbance and resilience must be focused in the landscape sustainability science, including global-material flow and adaptation to long-term change in environment.
