Landscape Ecological Dynamics in Different Wetlands:A case study in Beijing area

PAN Yun,Nobukazu Nakagoshi,ZHOU Xinwei,XIONG Zaiping

Different wetlands are controlled by different factors. The dynamics of different wetlands can reflect the changes of their controlling factors, and this could help us to manage and protect wetland resource better.

This paper firstly establishes the indications of different wetlands for remote sensing recognition, including shape, hue, texture, and relationships with the surrounding environment, and then a time series TM/ETM+ images are used to extract the different wetlands in Beijing area. Reservoir wetland, river wetland, pond wetland, paddyfield wetland and park wetland are classified from remote sensing images and made into thematic maps. Statistical analysis is then proceeded to compare the areas of different wetland types at different times. Then, landscape ecological analysis is continued to find the dynamics. Some landscape ecological metrics are calculated to analyze the landscape pattern changes of different wetlands, such as heterogeneity and center of mass. At last, the ecological quality is evaluated and mapped.

Based on the analysis result, several suggestions about human activities are concluded to improve the ecological quality of Beijing.
