New Title: Building green space map in Hanoi, Vietnam based on

land suitability analysis

The land suitability analysis (LSA)is a GIS-based process for evaluating the suitability of land for development. Green spaces, last remnant nature in urban areas, are precious resource for urban dwellers, as demand for land to develop grows with the population, cities can usually only afford to preserve a few green spaces. Therefore, the analysis and identification of suitable sites for developing green spaces are very important. In this study, LSA for building green space map is based on the analysis of the air pollution map, water body system, existing land-use map, map of value historical and cultural landscape and Vietnamese standard for planning and designing urban areas with spatial analysis functions of Arc GIS 9.0 though steps including: the identification and collection of spatial data , development of weighting values by using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), data integration and output evaluation. As a result of that, the suitable sites for developing green spaces in Hanoi will be identified and compared with Hanoi Master Plan up to 2020. This combined with landscape ecological principles will be basic for planning comprehensive green structure in Hanoi.
